Sparx FLAT Grinding Ring – grind the blade flat, start fresh

The FLAT Ring removes the existing hollow from the blade so that you can apply a new hollow cleanly. Its specially formulated coarse abrasive removes more material in less time than a Radius or FIRE Ring. This way you also get rid of deep nicks and damage – and save wear on your actual grinding ring in the process.

How to proceed according to Sparx

• Setting a new hollow: 3 to 4 cycles with the FLAT Ring, then 6 to 8 cycles with the Radius Ring (8 to 10 for a very deep hollow)
• Small nicks: 5 to 6 cycles with the FLAT Ring
• More severe damage: 6 to 8 cycles and then 2 to 3 more at a time until the damage is no longer visible
• Always afterwards: sharpen 6 to 8 cycles with a Radius or FIRE Ring

For the Sparx skate sharpeners ES200 and Sharpener 3 (ES300).

Good to know

• The FLAT Ring alone does not produce a sharpening that is ready to skate on. Always sharpen afterwards with a Radius or FIRE Ring.
• For the FeatherBlend function on the Sharpener 3, Sparx recommends the FLAT Ring together with the FeatherBlend Riser.
